Pizza Night

We are a family of pizza lovers.  I have started to make my own (since I found Trader Joes dough, 99 cents each) to cut down on consuming the crap that is put into the pizza from delivery places.  I am particularly fond of the wheat and herb pizza doughs from TJs.  They are a bit easier to work with.  My favorite combinations so far have been a 4 cheese on herb crust and garden veggie with tons of garlic and basil on wheat crust.  Kai loves them and it gives us some healthier options.  I think next Im going to try a bbq style pizza with a meat substitute.

Kai's job is rolling and shaping the dough. He did a terrific job (with a little help from mom).

“The Hair Cut”

We have always kept Kai’s hair long.  I love his long locks, I was even envious of his amazing hair.  Each summer we say to eachother we are going to give him a mohawk as the boys sweats like crazy.  Since the begining of this blog its been getting shorter.  This past Saturday was the breaking point for my little man.  One Starbucks visit, a blowup bouncy slide at his school spring fling and a nearly 95 degree soccer game was the breaking point.  The kid could barely move to kick the ball, which he loves.  By the end of the game he was drenched and fussy.  We made a direct drive to a local kids hair place and our 5 year old received what will now and forever be called “The Hair Cut”.  Why you ask… well…

1. Its short.  I mean, this is going back to begining hair stages short.  I have not seen it this short since like 1 year.

2. Its drastic.   It has completely changed him.  He was tall for his age anyway thanks to some amazing and wonderful Grandads but now he looks like an 8 year old.

3.  My son now asks to borrow my green tea hair gel.  (there are numerous things wrong with this sentence)

So this is me, coming to terms with the fact that my cute 2 year old is nearly 6.  This is me needing to understand that its cool that he his becoming independent and though I love that he is growing, this is part of me realizing that soon I need to let him tie his own shoe.  I have done a good job thus far and commend his dad and I for a job well done.  Its funny how many thoughts go through my mind with just a hair cut.  He is a big kid now.

Ladies and Gents, I bring to you, The Fohawk.

And here it starts…

Exploring The Places We Live

We often take for granted where we are living and the enviornments around us.  A few Sundays ago the boys and I headed downtown for Brunch and wondering around Shockoe Slip.  We had a fun adventure.  It was a most peacful day and a great time with the men I love.  I tend to forget how amazing these moments can be.  A few things that stick out about this most amazing day:

Kai was bound and determined to  pick up litter every where we went.  He was getting so frustrated with the amount of trash and newspaper he kept finding.  Its these little things that leave big impressions on me when it comes to Kai.  He may be a little kid but he has the biggest heart I have ever seen.  There was a family outside of Shockoe Espresso just hanging out with us waiting for a tour and they were in awe of Kai.  One of them was even so kind as to reward Kai for all of his hard cleanup work with a high five and a handfull of chocolate covered espresso beans… Kai loved them, boy after my own heart (ya, THANKS DUDE).

John and Kai went leaf exploring and came back with some amazing finds and pictures.  I love watching the two of them together.  They have this amazing bond that I must admit I am a tad jealous of.  They excite and challenge one another and its so neat to see.

This was a truely blessed and amazing day.

Kite Festival

Every year for my birthday we head out to Dorey Park for the Kit festival.  I could not go this year (working, ya ya) but the boys still went.  They caught up with the winds and some old friends.

St. Pats Day

So in order to get this blog rolling I need to play catchup.

John did a number on Kai St. Pattys Morn… turning our milk green and the toilet water green.  Kai was so excited when daddy showed him the leprechan pee in the toliet.  Those boys!!!

You were so sweet 10 min ago!

I swear sometimes I can not keep up with this 5 year old.  We recently cut my sons hair and I feel like the ability to speak like a fairly educated 5 year old went with it…along with reasoning but hey we are talking of a 5 year old.  Yes he is adorable, but I feel as though we have taken a step back to the “threes”…. you remember THOSE threes.  My patients has been tried more than I care to imagine today so to combat this weird behavior in my 5yo, we had a tickle fest!!!  It was much fun.  The three of us joined in and he was my very cute little man again.  Giggling and laughing until he said ” you gotta stop or I will pee”.  He is too funny.  So now he is back to copying every word we say and well, I suppose,  just being 5.  I wish it were still ten minutes ago when we were laying in bed with tired bellies from laughing too hard.

Well Here I go, count me in.

I used to write religously.  I used to love it, then my hand started to get ill and well… the art of writing became lost on me (as did many things).  For a long time I heard about blogging, and well honestly- everyone does it so I figured I wouldnt.  For the past few months I have been writing little snippets of things here and there on beverage napkins when we are at brunch or wherever… Lately I have been poking around some friends sites and well it seems pretty cool… here I am.. my virtual bev nap of my very own.
